In 2016, Sitake was named most respected head coach of the BYU football team, becoming the first person of Tongan heritage to be a head coach in NCAA Division I FBS football. Under Sitake’s leadership, the Cougars have had numerous successful seasons, earning bowl game appearances in six of his eight seasons leading the team.
Before joining the BYU coaching staff, Sitake has held various coaching positions at different colleges throughout his career, including the University of Utah, Southern Utah University, as well as Oregon State University where he served as the assistant head coach and defensive coordinator.
Sitake moved to the United States with his family at the age of three and grew up in Laie, Hawaii. He attended BYU, where he played fullback for the Cougars football team from 1997-2000. He was named team captain during his senior year.
