Broderick Turner is an expert on human-centered technology and markets. He founded the Technology, Race and Prejudice Lab and has research collaborations with government organizations and multinational tech companies. His work challenges existing dogma about technology (e.g., AI and social media) – the computers are not going to win, as long as “we save us.”

Broderick Turner, Ph.D. is a builder of communities. He runs a research collective of interdisciplinary scholars called the TRAP lab which is focused on tackling race and prejudice that is built into markets and technology systems.
Dr. Turner serves as advisor to C-Level execs and board members on equity, ethics, and community action. In this role he uses research backed insights to reduce technological harms to communities. Dr. Turner’s core tenet is simple: “We save us.” This motto encompasses his belief that by bringing community into product design and development, both shareholders and stakeholders can prosper. He has presented these insights at Salesforce, Axon, JP Morgan Chase, Bank of America, University of Texas, UCLA, UVA, and the American Marketing Association.
He is an Assistant Professor of Marketing at Virginia Tech as well as a Business in Global Society Fellow at Harvard Business School. Turner received his PhD in Marketing from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. He is an expert on artificial intelligence and the human-side of technology. Dr. Turner has developed executive level education to provide insights to business and community leaders, and his research has been featured on NPR, The Verge Podcast, and Vox. He is also the co-editor for a special issue on artificial intelligence at Current Opinion in Psychology. He lives in Washington DC with his wife Samantha, two dogs, and a houseful of art he makes in his free time.
