Celebration is the Key to Building Teams

Vandana Hart, CEO of Hart Media, shares insights on how to ignite heart leadership and fostering teams that move together as one.

After many years at the UN working on the future of cities, traveling to 100 countries, creating a Netflix show, and being a tech founder, I have found that one thing stood out across all of these experiences: the power of a global mission can only come to life as powerfully as the team who loves to move together. When a team is aligned in heart and vision, and can also move together, anything is possible. How do we move together? One of the best ways is to actually physically move together, in live embodied experiences of meditation, music, and dance, celebrating the incredible people who are building the companies of the future.

When I step back from all of these incredible experiences, what moves my heart most is moving people back into their heart, into their body, and into their full power and leadership. When we are on our screens most of the day, I have noticed many teams become detached from their bodies and forget how to twerk. The connection back to full presence and the aliveness in the body has given me the strength and inspiration to stay on my life’s mission. When we bring movement into the daily practice of a company, we generate joy and overall well-being for employees.

I love inspiring people to move from their hearts and uniting people from different backgrounds to move together. I believe when we move together, anything is possible. When we move our bodies as one, we can move our communities, our families, our companies, and even the world.

I have an obsession with live dance and music circles. I used to dance battle in New York with the founders of Hip Hop, who choreographed “Remember the Time” for Michael Jackson. Nothing brings me more joy than bringing circle culture with live music and dance into companies. You see raw expression, liberation, and joy in a way you would never get from talking. After sharing dance in the Congo with women who were victims of violence, I have seen that the universal language of dance in a circle builds trust and belonging that would normally take years to build.

Staying active is also now recognized as the #1 solution to tackle mental health, 50% more effective than any other activity backed by science this year.

When you bring movement together into companies, especially diverse global teams, people open up and become vulnerable, which creates a priceless intimacy and resonance. When Citibank, Facebook, and Apple executes from different cultures, worldviews, and life experiences move as one circle, it becomes a transformative experience.

After my ‘Heart Moves’ circles, company teams tell me they become closer with their colleagues and start to have tea with each other 2 to 3 times a week versus a few times a year, forming real friendships. From this place of closeness, their work flows with more meaning, purpose, and sense of belonging. The office becomes an extension of life and culture of the heart, and the mission becomes one that everyone is a part of from the inside out.

Moving together in a circle also opens creativity, innovation, a sense of unity, and deeper connection with teams.

When I was in South Africa for Nelson Mandela’s 100th celebration, I interviewed his grandson, who was raised by Mandela himself. He shared with me that Mandela would inspire millions to dance together on the same beat to build a powerful movement before fighting for liberation. Dancing together was the key ingredient for unity and rising in freedom.

Building a movement means moving into collective greatness.

I am excited to share my keynote ‘Heart Moves’ to inspire embodied leadership from the heart within companies. The Heart Moves method has a 3-part method of embodiment, unity and celebration, that can be used across all areas of life.

My favorite moment on my last speaking tour was when my keynote turned into a full celebration, and we could not stop the CEO in the dance battle.
